On October 17, NCW executive Liza Parlato Trigona took part in a seminar on gender equality organised by the Reggie Miller Foundation at the Jerma Palace Hotel in Marsascala.
Michael Parnis, deputy general secretary of the General Workers Union, gave the opening speech. The first speaker was Dr Charmaine Grech, research officer at the GWU, who tackled gender equality in employment.
Dr Roberta Lepre, gender liaison officer at NCPE, built on Dr Grech's presentation by going through each point referring to Directive 2002/73/KE of the European Parliament and the Council of September 22, 2002.
The final presentation was given by Lucy Pace Gouder, gender executive at ETC. She clarified the importance of training and life-long learning with special reference to the training offered by ETC's gender unit. An example of ETC's gender training is the empowerment courses offered for women at the NCW premises.
The afternoon session started with a speech by Tony Zarb, general secretary of the General Workers Union, who stressed that equality is one of the union's primary goals.
The seminar was rounded off with a forum made up of a panel of three guests, the Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity Dolores Cristina, Dr Roselyn Borg (MEA) and Ms Josephine Attard Sultana (GWU).
