Genovese regains title

Mario Genovese regained the national men's title after beating previous champion Edward Baldacchino 4-2 in a close final yesterday.

Johanna Grech maintained her supremacy in the ladies' singles after she had the better of Roxanne Palla 3-0.

In the junior/cadet events, 14-year-old Matthew Micallef highlighted his improvement over these last three months by contesting three finals - U-18, U-15 and doubles. Micallef walked away with the U-15 title but was on the losing end in the other two finals.

Veterans - P. Dawson beat A. Anastasi 11-7, 8-11, 7-11, 11-6, 13-11.

Plate event - H. Wadge beat K. Frendo Cumbo 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8.

Boys U-18 - R. Carbonaro beat M. Micallef 15-13, 11-5, 11-9. Boys U-15 - M. Micallef beat S. Grech 5-11, 11-9, 9-11, 14-12, 11-9. Boys U-13 - D. Bajada beat R. Grech 11-1, 11-3, 11-8. Boys doubles - D. Bajada/D. Vella beat M. Micallef /J.P. Schembri 11-8, 11-8, 11-7.

Girls U-15 - J. Pace beat G. Caruana 11-9, 15-13, 11-9.
