The Labour Party's spokesman for Foreign Affairs, George Vella, left for the United Nations in New York today, where he will be part of a high level delegation from the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly attending the 66th UN general assembly.

The assembly is expected to discuss the Palestinian peoples' request for their country to be given recognition as a member state.

Dr Vella and the delegation are also expected to visit Washington for a number of meetings with senior US administration officials and member of the congress.
