Although Stanley J. A. Clews wrote (January 5 ) that there was no need for him to come to Eddie Fenech Adami and I. M. Beck's defence, he actually tried to!
Instead of succeeding in his mission of defending the prime minister, he gave me another chance to prove to your readers how farcical was the way Dr Fenech Adami had won the European Voice's award as The European of the Year, and not Europe's Achiever of the Year.
Funnily enough, the story how the other "Eddie" got his award was revealed by Miss Malta, Dana Ben Moussa, in an interview with Malta Today (December 28).
Miss Ben Moussa said: "Voting for the award was carried out by e-mail. I received an e-mail from a friend of mine asking me to vote and many others received instructions on how to vote for Dr Fenech Adami. Being small makes it easier to find support. Nobody in France would have dreamt of circulating an e-mail asking people to vote for the French president. Our prime minister had a whole country being mobilised to vote for him".
Miss Ben Moussa has said it all! It just shows to what lengths the Nationalist Party propaganda machine goes to make propaganda when they need it badly. And how the Malta Labour Party one allows them to get away with it! In fact, I understand that there were around 10,000 people who voted for that award. I guess that I am not that far wrong when I say that around 9,000 of those who voted were PN supporters.
And, by the way, has not Major Clews realised, as yet, that I am signing my Christian name as "Eddy" so that there is nothing in common now with the prime minister? I had decided on this when I saw the other "Eddie" signing the EU accession treaty in Athens, which has turned Malta back to a colonial status after just 40 years of independence!
