Golden Bay brawl lands man in hospital, another behind bars
The incident happened at about 6pm on Sunday
A man ended up in hospital and another behind bars after an argument at Golden Bay on Sunday.
The police said the incident happened at 6pm.
A 21-year-old man from Paola was injured and hospitalised. An 18-year-old man resident in Marsa is being questioned by the police.
Writing on Facebook, the Malta Rangers Unit (MRU) said its volunteers found the victim in the bay's car park, bleeding heavily from a nose injury.
An ambulance and the police were called. Those responsible fled, but one man was arrested at the scene.
"Our rangers have sent a detailed report to the police, together with evidence to assist to identify the offenders," the unit said.
Calls for greater police presence
The MRU called for a greater police presence at the popular bay following what they described as regular fights taking place there on Sunday mornings.
Large groups of youths were flocking to Golden Bay, with some groups “causing problems regularly”, the rangers warned.
The unit said the Rangers have witnessed fights during the last couple of Sundays at Golden Bay.
The fights, stemming from “problematic groups”, were taking place during the day, when the beach was being enjoyed by families, the MRU said, adding the groups’ activities were also “severely damaging” the dune and leading to littering.
The beach is monitored by rangers due to it being part of the Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park, and is protected due to its sand dune habitats.
