A delegation from Gharb recently visited the town of Massafra in southern Italy to discuss a twinning agreement.
Led by mayor David Apap, the delegation, which included the deputy mayor and a group of viticulture, honey and oil-making enthusiasts of Gharb, was given a tour of the locality's vineyards, wine canteens and olive groves.
Mr Apap also attended an EU-commissioned conference organised by Antares 2000, an organisation which caters for employment and labour-related problems in EU states.
Held in Sambuci (Rome) the conference was entitled "Area-based actions, policies integration, sustainable development and innovative approach to the management of the change". It also treated the issues of bridging the current experience and the future as well as treating the economy and work in small countries.
Dr Mario Scerri, legal adviser to Gharb council, who was part of the delegation, joined the mayor for a meeting with 30 entrepreneurs from Massafra interested in investing in Gozo, particularly in Gharb. The possibility of establishing a meeting in Gharb with the local entrepreneurs was also discussed.
