Gharb Council recently commissioned Architect Edward Scerri to carry out a survey to be presented to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) in connection with the Gharb section of the Gozo local plan.

Gharb council held three meetings with the Local Planning Unit during which the survey was presented and explained. The council was disappointed to note that previous requests for areas to be included in the local plan for housing purposes were not adhered to at this stage.

The survey, prepared by the council's architect, was based on two maps. One map highlighted the different categories of residences found in Gharb including summer resorts, residential and vacant buildings and buildings with inheritance problems.

The map marked the various requests forwarded by Gharb residents for areas to be included in the development plans mainly for same family housing purposes. The map illustrated Government land areas which are being requested by the council to be used for social housing projects and recreational area projects.

The other map illustrated residential buildings, built up areas and empty plots in the development zone.

Gharb council said it is satisfied with the outcome of the meetings held with the Local Planning Unit and augurs that its requests will be reflected in the final plans.
