Għasri en fête on Sunday
As part of feast celebration, parish magazine Il-Korpus, first published in 1980, delivered to every household
Għasri marks the feast of Christ the Saviour on Sunday. Anton Teuma will concelebrate pontifical mass at 9am, with the participation of the Lauda Sion parish choir, under the direction of maestro di cappella Ivan Attard.
In the evening, mass will be celebrated at 6.30, while the procession with the titular statue of Christ the Eucharistic Redeemer will leave the church at 7.45pm. The procession will be led by Mgr Michael Mintoff, accompanied by the Visitation Band of Għarb.
During the procession, a musical programme will be performed at Pjazza s-Salvatur by the Allegro Clefs Band. At the end of the procession, the Visitation Band will perform a musical programme at the square. A musical evening will be held at the parish centre at 10.30pm, followed by fireworks.
On Saturday, Mgr Teuma will lead a concelebrated mass at 6.30pm, with the participation of adolescents and youths. During mass, Mgr Teuma will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. A procession with the Blessed Sacrament, led by Mgr Mintoff and accompanied by the Visitation Band, will leave the church at 7.30pm. A musical programme by the Visitation Band will take place at Pjazza s-Salvatur at 8.45pm. An audiovisual feature and ground fireworks display by the Fontana Fireworks Association will begin at 10pm.
The annual fundraiser Iklafest will be held at Pjazza s-Salvatur on Friday at 8pm, the last day of the triduum. The Joy Givers Group will participate. As part of the feast, Il-Korpus, the annual parish magazine, edited by Toni Calleja, has been delivered to every family in the village. The magazine was first published in 1980.
The statue of Christ the Saviour is the work of Michael Camilleri Cauchi. It was commissioned by parish priest Fr Ġużepp Mintoff on October 17, 1980. It was finished on September 19, 1982, and transferred to Nadur basilica, from where it was taken triumphantly to Għasri parish church where it was blessed by Bishop Nikol Cauchi.
