The European Green Party has approved a resolution entitled For a GMO-free Maltese Archipelago presented by Alternattiva Demokratika in the founding congress of the European party in Rome last Sunday.

The resolution called on the Maltese government to immediately declare the Maltese islands a GMO-free zone in order to stand by the precautionary principle while keeping some areas of the European Union free of GMO experiments as a safety measure.

AD is also urging Malta to align with the United Nations treaty on bio-safety, known as the Cartagena Protocol, regarding transboundary movements of GMOs.
