While recently visiting Gnien Pawlu Boffa in Paola, I could not help but notice the derelict state of the garden, especially the fountains within. Upon research I found that this subject was referred to in this newspaper in a letter by Mr J. Scicluna on July 27, 1999!
The enormous cascade and centre pond are in an utter state of neglect. Fountain spouts and lights are missing and the basins are stone dry.
Besides most of the soiled areas are dry and bare, crying out for plants and flowers to adorn them.
One looks at this negligence with sadness as the inauguration of the garden, celebrated with pomp, reminds me of the fountains' beautiful jets of water and coloured lights.
This garden is a mecca for schoolchildren, a resting place for the elderly and, also, a dedicated memory to a respected doctor and prime minister.
I think all these deserve better treatment.
