The Labour Party this morning expressed concern over GO plc plans to lay off some workers.

Party deputy leader Anglu Farrugia said this concern was compounded by the fact that before the general election - when GO was privatised - Dr Gonzi had assured the workers in writing that their jobs were safe.

Dr Gonzi should now tell the people what had happened to this assurance, Dr Farrugia said. The assurance, he added was given at a time when GO was used for the purchase of a telecoms company in Greece.

He hoped, Dr Farrugia said that Dr Gonzi's assurance was not the same as given to the dockyard workers, the bus drivers, the taxi drivers, the mini-bus drivers and the workers at Air Malta.
