Maltese people are known for their outgoing personalities and for always helping out where needed. However, they find two subjects rather sensitive: village feasts and politics. One can imagine what happens when the two are mixed together!
In ‘Hekk Alla Jgħinni’ (if God would help me) a young and charismatic doctor, Michael Micallef (Joseph Galea), is persuaded by his friend Silvio (Aaron Fenech), to be a candidate for president of the local band club... then for the general election.
After Dr Micallef is elected to Parliament and sworn in as the Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly, his life changes drastically, leaving no time for his personal issues, such as his relationship with Claire (Elaine Saliba Bonnici), who is constantly reminded by her uncle Dun Pawl (Vince Micallef Pulé) of her sinful loving relationship with the doctor. What are the consequences of both power and fame?
The play is produced by Joseph Galea and Carlos Farrugia, and written by Brian Bonnici. The cast also includes Maria Laura Fenech, Gilbert Mallia, John Vassallo, Kim Woods and Ryan Caruana.
Hekk Alla Jgħinni is on at Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta, on April 13, 14, 16, 17 and 20 at 8pm; and on April 19 at 10.30am. Tickets are on sale from the Spazju Kreattiv box office or from ticketenginex.kreattivita.org.
