Five members of staff of the Malta GC Unit of the Sea Cadet Corps have been presented with the Queen`s Golden Jubilee Medal in the British monarch`s 50th year on the throne.

The medals were presented to the Sea Cadets Corps staff members by British High Commissioner Howard Pearce on behalf of the Sea Cadet headquarters in London.

The recipients of the medal were Unit Commanding Officer Lt Cdr (SCC) Lino Camilleri RNR, Capt (SCC) Paul Camilleri RMR, Lt (SCC) Charles Seychell RNR, Lt (SCC) Saviour Baldacchino RMR and PO (SCC) Donald Montebello.

The presentation of the medals was held at the Sea Cadet headquarters in Rinella during a ceremonial inspection by Mr Pearce.

Welcomed by the Unit president, Lt Cdr (SCC) Joseph V. Ebejer RNR (Retd) and Unit chairman Joe Aquilina, the high commissioner inspected the unit`s three divisions: the Marine Cadet Detachment, the Seaman division and the Junior Division.

Following the inspection, the high commissioner met the officers, senior rates, SNCOs and members of the Unit Management Committee and the Parents` and Supporters Association.

After Evening Colours, Mr Pearce was presented with a certificate marking his acceptance as the first patron of Training Ship St Paul and a silver salver as a memento.

Mr Pearce`s term of office will end later this year but future high commissioners will carry on in the post of patron of the unit.

Lt Cdr (SCC) Nigel Bush RNR (Retd), who was in Malta with the George Cross Island Association to mark the 60th anniversary of the award of the George Cross to Malta, was presented with a plaque of the Sea Cadets.
