Shawn Camilleri, 17, of Marsa, won third place at the 2005 International Junior Handling Competition which took place at the world's greatest dog show, Crufts, this week in Birmingham, England.

Mr Camilleri represented Malta alongside 31 other junior handlers. He handled a Beagle and an Australian Shepherd.

The winner was Pia Adlesic, of Slovenia, and Katja Rauhut of Monaco was second.

Malta has won on two occasions, in 2000 and 2003.

Officials of the Maltese National Canine Federation, which was responsible for Malta's representation, accompanied Mr Camilleri throughout the event.
