The Labour Party's spokesman on infrastructural services, Joe Mizzi said that since the government started to apply the formula through which the prices of oil products were made to reflect the fluctuations in prices on the international market, the price of diesel had risen by 30 per cent.

Earlier this week the price of diesel was raised by 1c3 per litre, from 24c9 to 26c2 after the price went up by 1c1 per litre in January.

Mr Mizzi said the government was being compelled to raise prices because it refused to adopt the hedging agreement through which it would buy fuels when prices were favourable in order to maintain stable prices.

Mr Mizzi said the increase in the price of diesel would continue to push the cost of living up and would push up operating costs for businesses.
