The Cabinet yesterday announced that the government is to sell 13,530,000 Ordinary "A" shares in Malta International Airport plc on the Malta Stock Exchange.

This represents half the 40 per cent shareholding in MIA that the government currently owns. The other 40 per cent are owned by a consortium led by Vienna Airport while the remaining 20 per cent are listed on the stock exchange.

The government's Privatisation Unit said the sale will be completed before the end of the year.

A spokesman for the Ministry for Investments said yesterday that no decision had yet been taken on the specific conditions of sale of these shares.

The government had announced in the last budget that it had intended to sell half its shares in MIA.
