Government transfers boathouse to amateur Sliema fishermen for 45 years

Total yearly dues for the association will be €489.40 instead of €9,788

The government has transferred a St Julian's boathouse to the Sliema amateur fishermen association for 45 years through the title of temporary emphyteusis.

The Education Ministry said in a statement that the total yearly dues for the association will be €489.40 instead of €9,788. The amount due will be deposited in the Sports Fund administered by SportMalta and will be invested in future sport initiatives.

Minister Clifton Grima, who was present for the signing of the transfer, said such agreements were being reached with associations and clubs to offer peace of mind that they can continue growing their sport or hobby.

Now that the Sliema fisherman association can administer the land of the property, it should be incentivised to invest in the facility itself, the ministry said in the statement.
