A 79-year-old Gozitan man has died in hospital after having been hit by a car in Victoria this morning.

The police said the incident happened at Pope John Paul II Street at 6.40 a.m. The vehicle, a Toyota, was being driven by a 50-year-old man, also from Victoria.

Magistrate Paul Coppini is holding an inquiry.
