Otters ASC start their pursuit of an unprecedented ASA Division Two title this evening with a match against Marsaxlokk at the National Pool, Tal-Qroqq.
The revived Gozitan team, under the guidance of Alfred Cachia and led in the water by Hungarian top-shot Zoltan Radocz, had an outstanding start in the Preliminary Round of the championship with three fine victories from as many outings against opponents from the same category.
In their last match, Otters had the better of second-placed Marsascala 13-9, the two points lifting the Marsalforn-based club to sole leadership and dizzy heights in the standings, perhaps a just reward for their endeavours to promote the game despite the limited resources available for them on the sister island.
The second match in today's programme will be a Division One clash between Sliema and Exiles.
The Blues should maintain their unbeaten run in the league and move temporarily top of the table, at least for 24 hours as tomorrow joint leaders Neptunes play Sirens.
The Reds beat Sirens 12-6 in the Preliminary Round a few weeks back.
Yet again, Sliema and Neptunes have shown superior qualities compared to the rest of the teams in the top flight, making this summer's championship another two-horse race between the eternal rivals of Maltese waterpolo.
