“The Gozo Ministry strongly supports the concept of active ageing and wants to see it strengthened,” said Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana during the opening of the new academic year of the University of Third Age Gozo at the University Campus in Xewkija.
Dr Caruana said the elderly were not only provided with useful academic information during these sessions, but they were also being active, meeting new people and socialising, as well as being able to share their experiences, enabling them to participate fully in society.
“The concept of U3A can be strengthened and expanded further by introducing new services and classes… and this with the full collaboration of the University,” the minister said.
The inauguration of the new academic year opened with Mass celebrated by Fr Anton Schembri.
Present for the occasion was University of the Third Age director and Department of Gerontology head Marvin Formosa.
