The Christ the King monument in Independence Square, Victoria has been given a face lift thanks to a Lm5,000 sponsorship from the HSBC Cares For Malta's Heritage Fund.

The restored monument was unveiled yesterday by the Minister for Gozo Giovanna Debono and HSBC Malta's chief executive officer Shaun Wallis.

The monument recalls Gozitans who were killed during WWII and was originally inaugurated on May 7, 1954 by Queen Elizabeth II.

The monument will be one of the main stopping points on November 25 by the Duke of Edinburgh who will lay a wreath there as part of the Queen's state visit in connection with CHOGM.
