A gangland hitman who murdered two rival mobsters was in part convicted because he was a dedicated athelete who used a GPS watch.
Mark ‘Iceman’ Fellows, 39, was found guilty of having killed Paul Massey and John Kinsella, 55 and 53, by a court in Liverpool.
Investigators had already started looking into Mr Fellows as a prime suspect, when they found a photo of him wearing a GPS tracker watch while running a marathon in Manchester.
They then located the device and checked its GPS data – and found that it placed him right at the scene of the crime.
A court expert told the court that the suspect had worn the watch across a route which was then used in Mr Massey’s murder, the Liverpool Echo reported.
Following the two murders, Mr Fellows left the UK on a long holiday – and was promptly arrested the moment he returned to the country. He has now been sentenced to life in prison.
