Grand Harbour named 'most beautiful' cruise port in study

Participants were shown images of 33 different ports

Valletta’s Grand Harbour is considered to have the "most beautiful cruise port", according to a study carried out by a British travel insurance company.

AllClear Travel Insurance showed 100 participants several images of 33 different cruise ports, each known for its stunning views, to find which is the most visually captivating one.

The study utilised eye-tracking technology to establish how quickly certain images caught a participant’s eye and the total viewing duration.

To determine the final ranking, the data from both metrics were combined, with the former accounting for 25 per cent of the score and the latter taking up 75 per cent.

The Grand Harbour received a perfect score with 100/100. The insurance company attributed this high score to the UNESCO World Heritage Site’s beautiful aesthetics.

“Its combination of golden limestone reflecting off the glistening water provides the ultimate, jaw-dropping arrival into this exciting Mediterranean city, and with the longest fixation time of any port in the study, Malta certainly earned its place as our number one,” it said.

Ranking below the Grand Harbour were Argentina’s Port of Ushuaia, Italy’s Port of Palermo, Sweden’s Stadsgården Cruise Terminal, and the Bahamas' Nassau Cruise Port.
