The Grand Lottery jackpot was won for the first time this evening, with the holder of the winning ticket winning over €1.57 million.
The ticket was bought in Mosta.
Concern had been expressed in some quarters that no one had won the top prize.
The lottery was launched with much fanfare last March and was initially played every two months with a ticket price of €10.
In September, Maltco relaunched the game with a €3 ticket and weekly draws in the hope that it would capture the public’s imagination with its huge jackpots. Still no one won.
Then on Christmas Eve Maltco announced that the chances of winning the 1st prize category were being almost doubled, to 1:400,000 tickets instead of 1:700,000 tickets. Each ticket still cost €3.
