Veteran cueist Joe Grech was recently crowned billiards champion by the Malta Snooker and Billiards Association (MBSA) after beating Richard Balani 5-0 in the final at the Peace Band Club, Naxxar.

Grech, world amateur champion in 1997, beat Tommy Busuttil 4-0 in the semi-final while Balani made it to his first final following a close 4-3 win over Pancrazio Borg.

Paul Galea refereed the match between the two St Joseph BC, Hamrun, players. MBSA president David Farrugia Sacco presented the trophies after the final. It was Grech's 10th national billiards title.

The 2004/05 MBSA season comes to a close next week with the First Division billiards final between Brian Cardona (Melita) and Carmelo Camilleri (UKSG).
