David Azzopardi, 36, of Cospicua, was remanded in custody after he was charged with grievously injuring Marie Claire Calleja in Paceville on May 9 and on September 28, 2003.

Azzopardi was also charged with breaching the public peace.

The accused was denied bail in view of the gravity of the offence and because of the fear of tampering with evidence.

Dr Edward Zammit Lewis and Dr Josè Herrera appeared for the accused.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.
