A man was jailed for six months for stealing a woman's bag that contained over Lm100 in cash.

Johan Mifsud, 31, of Cospicua pleaded guilty to stealing Maria Dolores Bezzina's bag from Fgura on November 25, 2004.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti heard that although Mr Mifsud was willing to carry out community work, he was not eligible to do so because he still had a drug problem.

For this reason the magistrate jailed him for six months.

Police Inspector Malcolm Spiteri prosecuted.
