A man was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for four years after he admitted to five counts of theft.

Sandro Spiteri, 26, of Zejtun pleaded guilty to stealing car stereos and other items from Zejtun and Marsascala, stealing several handbags from St Thomas Bay, in Zejtun and a mobile phone from St Julians on and before February 2001.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera placed Spiteri under the supervision of a probation officer for two years.

Police Inspector Carmelo Bartolo prosecuted.

Dr José Herrera appeared for Spiteri.
