Former Floriana FC stalwart Guzi Alamango passed away yesterday, aged 75. Alamango formed part of the great Floriana side that won four consecutive league championships, two FA trophies and three Cassar Cups between 1949 and 1953.

He began his career with the Floriana Ajax `B` team in the mid-1940s and also figured for Zabbar FC. He joined Floriana in 1949 as a half-back. It was at Floriana where Alamango opted to switch to the goalkeeping position, a decision which heralded a distinguished career with the Greens. Alamango continued to turn out for Floriana up to the early sixties when he decided to retire.
