The GWU today accused the Water Services Corporation of trying to rid itself of a number of workers by using an arbitrary system for their transfer to the civil service without consulting the union, in breach of the collective agreement.

The union said that any workers who received a letter of transfer from the corporation should ignore it and continue to report at their place of work. They were also ordered not to attend a meeting which is to be held for them on Friday.

The union said the workers were being denied conditions they were being entitled to.

It said it had nothing against the WSC carrying out a redeployment exercise and even transferring workers back to the civil service if they were found to be excess to the corporation's needs, but such an exercise had to be carried out within agreed parameters.
