The General Workers' Union yesterday launched a handbook for shop stewards to help them provide members with a better service.
GWU general secretary Tony Zarb said the handbook was being launched this year on the occasion of the union's 60th anniversary.
Deputy general secretary Michael Parnis said that work on the handbook, which was also aimed at creating more uniformity in the way shop stewards worked, had been going on for the past two years.
It is divided into eight sections and contains information about the duties of shop stewards, organisation, representation, collective negotiations, information on the union, employment and industrial relations legislation, occupational health and safety and education.
It will be distributed to the union's 600 shop stewards next week.
