The General Workers' Union said it was unacceptable that the government was conducting talks over the privatisation of Enemalta or parts of the corporation behind the back of the union and the workers.

The union said it had been informed that talks over privatisation were taking place so that the government would appear to be honouring the promise it had made to the European Union.

The union said a motion approved during a meeting of the central committee of Enemalta workers expressed concern at developments with regard to privatisation.
