The GWU has ordered Arriva bus drivers not to wear their ties because of the excessive heat.

In a statement, the union said it was surprised by the reaction which it had received from Transport Malta, which insisted that the tie is part of the drivers' uniform.

The union noted that TM had even allowed its own staff not to wear ties. The police too, were not required to wear their tie.

The union said it could not tolerate discrimination, and the drivers, therefore should not wear their tie.
