GWU registers industrial dispute over 'delays' to MCAST agreement
The union says it has issued directives to its members
The General Workers Union has registered an industrial dispute with MCAST following what it has described as delays to the signing of a collective agreement for warranted non-educational members at the college.
The union announced the move in a statement Monday.
While negotiations on a collective agreement had been concluded “for several weeks”, and despite the union being given “several assurances” that the agreement would be signed shortly, a date for the signing of the agreement was not yet in place, it said.
“This situation is creating justified frustration among the members concerned, especially in light of the fact that there is a verbal agreement on the new financial package from which they are expected to benefit.”
It insisted that it would not wait indefinitely for the agreement to be signed and said it had issued directives to its members, “which will remain in force until a concrete date is given for the signing of the collective agreement”.
