Industrial action at the Water Services Corporation, ordered by the General Workers' Union last May, has been suspended after the government submitted counter-proposals which could lead to an acceptable agreement, the GWU said yesterday.

The union said it would be explaining the details of the proposed revision of salaries to members in a meeting on August 6.

The union's dispute with the WSC is over a new collective agreement for employees. The last one expired in December, 2000.

An agreement would bring to an end a series of industrial actions which started on May 13 and which have seen delays in the repair of faults.
