The General Workers' Union warned yesterday that all security guards at Malta International Airport would be ordered to strike indefinitely if an agreement with the management of J.F. Security was not reached by Monday.
The ultimatum was given during a conciliation meeting yesterday. The meeting was held at the request of Industrial Relations and Employment director Frank Pullicino.
The two parties will be meeting again on Monday during which the company should be putting forward its final proposals.
The union said the proposals the company had made so far on the new employment conditions for its workers were not acceptable and had been refused by the employees themselves during a meeting on Wednesday.
Under the proposals, workers would be earning Lm43 a week, which the GWU considered to be "shameful".
