A team from Malta will be taking part for the first time in the TeamGym European Championships in Ghent on October 24 and 25. The country will be represented by a group of 11 girls from GymStars GC. They will travel to Belgium together with a guest athlete from ISC GymClub.

TeamGym is a new discipline that comprises three exercises - floor, mini-trampoline and tumbling. Besides Malta, the other nations taking part are Austria, Czech Republic, Spain, Finland, Great Britain, France, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Iceland and Sweden.

In all, there will be 11 men's teams, 20 in women's competitions and 22 mixed for a total of nearly 700 gymnasts.

Danish club Sagelse will be defending the men's title they won in Ostrava in 2006. Competitions will be hosted by the Royal Gymnastics Federation of Belgium at the Flanders Sport Arena which can accommodate up to 500 spectators.
