We refer to your report "Labour councillors abandon meeting" (September 18).
Since the date of our election, we have always acted in the best interest of our locality, contrary to the allegations made by the Nationalist councillors in your report.
Primarily, we would like to remind the Nationalist councillors that for eight months, Labour councillors administered the local council even though the Nationalists were in a majority. During those eight months, the Nationalists were more interested in their own internal in-fighting and power struggle rather that the well-being of our locality.
Secondly, as Labour councillors we have protested on various occasions that the mayor and the executive secretary of the Gzira council are acting in breach of the Local Councils Act. Notwithstanding our protests, the mayor and the executive secretary have arrogantly continued to disregard our justified complaints.
As Labour councillors, we do not want to "disrupt meetings to try to hinder the council's work" but we are protesting against the arrogance shown by Nationalist mayor Albert Rizzo and the executive secretary and we will continue to do so until they change their attitude. This, we feel, is in the best interest of our locality.
