Hairdresser admits to throwing nail polish on ex's car, breaking plant pots

Man was separately charged with breaching restraining order

A 23-year-old Naxxar hairdresser admitted to throwing nail polish on her ex’s car and breaking plant pots outside his house.

The woman was arraigned in court on Thursday afternoon where she was accused of willfully damaging her ex’s belongings, slightly injuring him as well as insulting and threatening him.

Police inspector Omar Zammit explained that the man went to the Domestic Violence Unit to report the woman with whom he was in an on and off and shares children. The man explained that they argued and she insulted him before breaking the plant pots and throwing nail polish over his car.

The man, who was separately arraigned, was cautioned by the police since there was a protection order in favour of the woman.

The woman was arrested when she went to the Police Headquarters.

In court, the woman admitted to the charges saying she threw the nail polish after the man allegedly broke her mobile phone.

The court found the woman guilty by her own admission and placed her on a three-year probation order.

A three-year restraining order was issued in favour of the man.

The 34-year-old San Ġwann man was then arraigned and accused with breaching a restraining order in favour of the woman issued in November. He was also accused of committing a crime while being conditionally discharged by a separate court, and of threatening and insulting the woman.

He admitted the charges.

Defence lawyer Franco Debono requested a pre-sentencing report, which the court upheld.

He then requested bail for his client.

The court granted the man bail against a €10,000 personal guarantee.

“If you speak to each other you would be both committing an offence. Speak through your lawyers about your children,” the court warned the man.

Magistrate Nadia Helena Vella presided.

Police inspector Omar Zammit prosecuted.

Lawyers Franco Debono and Anthea Bonnici Zammit appeared for the man.

Legal aid lawyer Francois Dalli appeared for the woman.
