The Civil Protection Department has so far received enough donations to fill four containers of aid to the Haiti earthquake victims.

The department started collecting tinned food, water, blankets and clothing yesterday and is continuing today. Some of the aid will also be given to victims of recent flooding in Albania.

Patrick Murgo, CPD deputy director, said cars were pulling up at the CPD's Humanitarian Aid section every two minutes between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. yesterday.

People continued to make their donations this morning, with many bringing in water.

One donor, Mario Camilleri from Qormi, said: "I felt I had to do something when I saw the suffering. If something similar happened in Malta we'd want someone to help us too."

The donations are being received at the warehouse in Marsa. It can be reached by turning left at the roundabout just below Mcast.
