On the night of October 31, we, residents of Triq is-Sidra, Swieqi, instead of enjoying the peace of our homes, had to endure over two and a half hours of screaming, fire-crackers, foul language and a battle with raw eggs, which dirtied our front gardens or car-ports and defaced our outer walls.

Why was such a number of young people allowed to congregate in our street? Besides, Swieqi is not a playground or place of entertainment but a residential area. From time to time, I could see some police officers but the crowd was allowed to block traffic, disturb the peace and dirty private property.

It was only at 11.15 p.m. that a good number of policemen managed to disperse the huge crowd and we, the residents, could at last enjoy our much deserved rest.

If young people want to celebrate Halloween night in such a manner, they can do so to their hearts' content but far from residential areas. They have a right to have fun but no right to disrupt the peace of others.
