Hard Curves, an exhibition of 19 sculptures in steel, copper and bronze by Joe Genovese, is currently on show at the BPC Gallery in Ħamrun.

When asked what inspired him, Mr Genovese said: “Nature is a great inspiration. This exhibition is inspired by the different and ever changing colours of metal.”

Mr Genovese is no newcomer to the arts world. Hailing from a family of artists, he is an accomplished self-taught artist who has shown an interest for the arts since an early age. In 1979, he started his own workshops in Dingli and in 1982 he opened his own studio in Mosta and his own company, Cermart which has since been commissioned to produce the famous murals of Sirte, Libya.

Throughout his career, Mr Genovese has expressed his creativity in various media such as fibre art, ceramics, pen and ink, watercolours, acrylics, oils and sculpture. He has won numerous awards for his work. In 2000 he won second prize in painting at the Grolla D’Oro in Venice, Italy. A year later, he won first prize for a painting at the Silver Palette in Valletta and an award for sculpture at the Malta International Art Biennale. In 2004 he won first prize for a drawing at the Grolla D’Oro in Venice and in 2005 he was awarded distinction at the Madeira International Art Biennale.

David Brockdorff, BPC’s managing director said: “The previous exhibition of our art collection, which we had organised in conjunction with our 50th anniversary year, had been very well received and the gallery remains an inspiring venue. With Hard Curves, Joe Genovese presents works that are fresh and invigorating, combining an unassuming and deceptively simple approach with fine detail and workmanship.”

BPC Gallery, Spartan’s Street, Ħamrun, is a purposely built minimalist art gallery adjacent to BPC House. The exhibition is open to the public till June 25 between 5 and 7.30 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. till noon on Saturdays. Entrance is free.
