I would like to draw the attention of St Paul's Bay council to the terrible state of the pavements in Imsell Street Bugibba/Qawra, especially the right-hand side one.
All the neighbours including myself have contacted the St Paul's Bay council several times in writing, by phoning, or even calling at the council office, to no avail. Several people have fallen, twisted ankles and even broken legs (including myself) on the pavement. I spent several hours at Mosta clinic and at St Luke's Hospital as a result.
My next door neighbour is wheelchair-bound and needs three or four people to help him get off the pavement. A friend of mine had broken her leg badly in this street and was confined to her house for three months.
My sister had spoken to the mayor personally and the answer was: "There are more important things to be done". Safety and cleanliness are the most important issues. The street is dirty and a street sweeper is rarely seen here. The car park at the end of the street is strewn with rubbish. Last year part of it caught fire and luckily the cars were not damaged.
I appeal to the council to take action. Maybe the best solution is for Qawra to have its own council, now that it is also a parish and residents are increasing every day.
