Kalkara school head and deputy head slightly injured in argument with parent

The argument broke out outside the school on Monday morning

The head and deputy head of Kalkara Primary School suffered slight injuries on Monday when they were attacked by a parent during an argument, according to the teachers' union.

The argument was unrelated to school matters, the Malta Union of Teachers said.

The incident took place outside St Margaret College, Kalkara Primary School, at around 7.30am.

The police told Times of Malta that one of the female staff members was treated for slight injuries at the Paola health hub.

A spokesperson said investigations by the Education Ministry are ongoing, alongside police investigations. He confirmed two members of the school staff were involved in an altercation with a parent.

The MUT condemned the aggression and reiterated the need for authorities to support educators in schools.

"The MUT communicated with the Head of School and offered its support, whilst it also communicated with the Education Ministry for the required assistance."

Note: Education ministry spokesperson initially informed Times of Malta the incident happened at the middle school. It was later confirmed the incident took place at the primary school.
