I refer to a letter by Mr Joseph Borg (The Sunday Times, July 18). Heritage Malta would like to clarify that the works commissioned by it and carried out by the Ministry of Resources and Infrastructure were conducted on the doorway and not the entire façade. For the record, the Old University Buildings are also used as administrative offices by other entities.

The head and halo of the statue of St Ignatius Loyola are currently being restored after a conservation exercise was conducted by the Malta Centre for Restoration.

It is interesting to note that since the statue's head is quite heavy and considering that the rest of the statue is really a hollow shell, a stainless steel custom-made bracket will be used to mount the head to the body. This conservation project is expected to be concluded soon.

Heritage Malta apologises for the delay in responding to the issues raised by Mr Borg.
