Health and Safety free training courses

€400,000 Budget measures investment

If you are self-employed or run a small or medium-sized enterprise in any sector, the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) is offering you an important opportunity to strengthen your workplace. Through a new OHS Awareness Course, OHSA is providing free training designed to increase awareness and build practical skills on how to assess risks at your place of work and take the necessary action to safeguard your health and safety, as well as that of your workers.

This initiative forms part of a €400,000 investment announced under the 2026 Budget by the Ministry for Justice and Reform of the Construction Sector. The training programme is available free of charge to SMEs and self-employed workers across different sectors.

The launch of this programme follows closely on the opening of OHSA’s new training centre in May 2025, further underlining OHSA’s long-term commitment to training and education. Prevention remains the most effective form of protection. Every accident avoided not only protects a person’s dignity but also contributes to a safer and more productive working environment. This training initiative complements enforcement efforts by promoting better awareness, stronger compliance, and more effective implementation of health and safety standards.

The courses have been carefully designed to be practical, effective and efficient. They focus on helping employers and self-employed individuals understand their responsibilities, particularly when it comes to identifying workplace risks and taking proactive measures to address them. Training is tailored to different sectors, including construction, couriers and deliveries manufacturing, retail and hospitality, office-based work, as well as the beauty and wellness sector.

With more than 140,000 SMEs representing 99% of enterprises in Malta, and around 46,000 self-employed workers making up approximately 15% of the workforce, this programme is set to make a significant impact. Flexible schedules and the possibility of online learning ensure that participants can follow the course without disrupting their daily operations.

By investing in knowledge and practical skills today, businesses are not only protecting their workers but also strengthening their long-term sustainability and reputation. A proactive approach to health and safety sends a clear message that the wellbeing of every worker remains a national priority. Take the first step towards a safer workplace by applying for the OHS Awareness course. For more information, call 138 or visit ohsa.mt.
