The Vodafone Cares For Your Heart campaign has been extended following the positive response from the public.

Since the launch of the initiative by Vodafone and St James Hospital, over 150 people have taken advantage of Vodafone's offer: The company pays Lm35 of the total cost of Lm80 for a heart scan at the hospital, and customers pay the other Lm45.

St James Hospital Director Jean Claude Muscat said that individuals from all walks of life are exposed to the risk of suffering a heart attack but 85 per cent of sudden heart attacks may be prevented if the conditions leading to it are diagnosed early enough to be treated.

Cardiac disease is the main cause of death in Malta.

Over 33 per cent of all patients who have a heart attack each year show no symptoms beforehand.

Vodafone subscribers can book a heart scan at St James Hospital on 2169 2002 or 2169 2055.
