Heavy vehicles queue for Gozo ferry amid two-day delivery backlogs
Gozo channel crossing was suspended for close to two days
Heavy vehicles have been queuing in Ċirkewwa and Mġarr harbours as goods deliveries get back on track following an almost two-day suspension of the Gozo ferry service.
The ferry service has faced delays and suspension over the last few days due as Storm Harry battered Malta.
Ferry service was called off on Monday evening and throughout all of Tuesday as a strong south-easterly wind howled with 104km gusts, creating dangerous conditions at sea and on land.
An attempt to restart the service on Wednesday morning was aborted after one of the ferries struggled to berth in Ċirkewwa due to the strong swells resulting form the aftermath of the storm.
Full service was resumed late on Wednesday, albeit with limitations as one of the boats, the Mv Gaudos, is still out of service for scheduled maintenance.
Gozo Channel has warned that delays are expected.
The fast ferry service between Valletta and Gozo has been suspended indefinitely due to storm damage at the Valletta terminal.
The Sliema-Valletta ferry service and the Three Cities Ferry Sercies also remains suspended on Thursday, due to the swell and strong winds in the harbour, according to the Valletta Ferry Services website.
