A 22-year-old Libyan national has had a suspended jail term extended by three years for holding his landlord against his will in a Paceville apartment for six hours.

Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona found Ashref Mohammed Ahmed Aroud guilty of keeping Pierre Caruana against his will between 2 and 8 p.m. on July 3 in a Paceville apartment.

Aroud was also found guilty of using violence to compel Caruana to do his bidding, threatening him with a weapon, relapsing and committing the crime during the operative time of an 18-month jail term that was suspended for three years.

On finding Aroud guilty, the magistrate ordered that the suspended jail term be extended by another three years.

Police Inspectors Michael Mallia and Therese Sciberras prosecuted.

Dr Franco Debono appeared for Aroud.
