Hibernians made sure of their fifth championship in a row on Sunday after inflicting an 8-0 defeat on Rabat Ajax. Thanks to their latest success, the all-conquering Paolites have opened an unassailable 10 point-gap on second-placed Birkirkara.

Rabat, still without a point in the six-team women's league, were forced on the backfoot from the initial stages as Hibernians built a four-goal cushion by the end of the first half courtesy of Dionne Tonna, who notched a brace, Sarah Caruana and Patricia Borg.

The rampant Hibs maintained their momentum in the second half, adding another four goals through Caruana (2), Joanne Vella and Tonna to wrap up the title in emphatic style.

In Sunday's other match, Mosta had to fight hard to see off Raiders. After Chanel Cassar had given Raiders the lead, Mosta equalised through Jane Coates. Mosta's improvement after the change of ends produced goals from Maria Gatt and Sadia Mizzi but Marcia Zammit pulled one back for Raiders to drag them back into contention. However, their efforts to force a draw were thwarted by Mosta who secured their sixth victory of the season.

Top scorers: Dorianne Theuma (Hibs) 17 goals; Joanne Vella, Sarah Caruana (Hibs) 10; Eleonora Agliano (Birkirkara) nine; Catherine Camilleri (Birkirkara) eight.

Sunday's fixtures at the Pace Grasso Ground: 9 a.m. Hibs vs Melita; 10.30 a.m. Raiders vs Birkirkara.
